Emotions are astounding.

I'm incredibly anxious, and I have no idea why. The sick thing is, it makes part of me really happy. The ability to even have emotions is such a beautiful thing. The ability to express them is even more amazing.

Nicotine and Time (Cost a Buck and a Dime)

I knew something was wrong
when you lifted that cigarette
between your fingers
and held it to your lips.

You sipped that casual smoke
I thought, "You puffed like a pro, buddy."
What happened to you? Where did you go?
The boy I once knew
was now addicted, and a man.

You high fived your cousin.
"You're one of us now," he said.
"I'm cool..." your voice wandered off.
A tear rolled down my cheek
and in my head, a voice raised in protest.

It was hard to see you go,
but in the end, it was bound to happen.
It's funny how over time
you think you get to know someone,
but in the blink of an eye they're gone
and you realize you have no idea who they really are.

Use the power

I voted tonight for the first time ever. Not only was it my first time voting, but I am my parents first child to vote. They were very excited and proud. It all felt really good. It felt very empowering. It was nice to be able to finally have a say in how this country's government is run.

A New Beginning

I've been trying to think of some mildly extravagant way to start off this blog, but right now it's really not coming to me. I'll say this: I think this marks a new beginning. "Of what?" you ask. I'm really not sure, but I feel changes are a-brewin'.
